Our internships are designed for self-starters who love to learn. Rather than following step-by-step instructions, interns are given ownership of a specific area of the farm and are expected to research, ask questions, and continually grow in their knowledge throughout the season.
This is not a traditional internship where someone is constantly directing your work. We are looking for individuals who enjoy taking initiative, solving problems, and becoming a steward of their assigned responsibility.
Commitment
- 6-month internship
- Saturdays only
- 9:00–10:00 AM Team Meeting & Farm Planning
- 10:00 AM–12:00 PM Independent Work Session
- Approximately 3 hours per week
- Maximum of 5 interns each season

Animal Husbandry Intern
Become the caretaker of our chickens and goats.
This role oversees the daily health and care of our livestock. You'll be responsible for observing the animals, identifying needs, and researching best practices to continually improve their environment.
Responsibilities
- Chicken and goat care
- Stall and coop maintenance
- Water systems
- Bedding management
- Daily health observations
- Record seasonal changes and improvements
- Research husbandry practices and present recommendations to the team

Garden Intern
Help steward our growing spaces throughout the seasons.
You'll oversee the organization and health of the gardens while learning how thoughtful planning creates productive harvests.
Responsibilities
- Seasonal crop planning
- Seed starting
- Transplanting
- Weeding
- Bed maintenance
- Harvest support
- Coordinate produce drops with vendors
- Research planting schedules, varieties, and regenerative growing practices

Compost Intern
Lead the farm's soil-building efforts.
Healthy soil is at the heart of everything we grow. This internship focuses on managing compost systems and understanding the science behind living soil.
Responsibilities
- Build and monitor compost piles
- Turn and maintain compost
- Balance carbon and nitrogen inputs
- Monitor moisture and temperature
- Apply finished compost throughout the farm
- Research composting methods and recommend improvements
Best for someone who enjoys experimentation, observation, and learning the "why" behind regenerative farming.
Community Education & Outreach Intern
Connect people to the land through learning, service, and community.
Help create meaningful experiences for students, volunteers, and visitors while supporting the educational mission of La Fea Farms. This role combines class coordination, volunteer engagement, and community outreach to build a welcoming and organized farm environment.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with guest teachers and instructors
- Assist with class planning and preparation
- Prepare learning spaces and materials
- Welcome guests and support workshops
- Coordinate volunteer opportunities and schedules
- Organize volunteer orientation and service hour tracking
- Build relationships with schools, troops, and community groups
- Research educational programs and community engagement ideas
- Develop systems that improve classes and volunteer experiences
Best for someone who enjoys serving others, staying organized, building community, and taking initiative to learn and create new systems.
Social Media & Website Intern
Tell the story of the farm.
Document life at La Fea Farms and help share educational content that inspires others to reconnect with the land.
Responsibilities
- Capture photos and videos
- Edit content
- Create and schedule social posts
- Update website content
- Document projects and classes
- Research trends, storytelling ideas, and ways to better engage our audience while maintaining our authentic brand voice
Best for someone who is creative, organized, and enjoys visual storytelling.
