Garden Mindset: Part 1 - Understand Your Place
Where are you going to grow?
We're not teaching you how to garden our way. We're teaching you how to understand your garden.
Before you plant anything, learn to understand the land you're standing on.
Your property has its own sunlight, shade, water patterns, existing plants, possibilities, and challenges. And in Florida, understanding your growing environment can make all the difference.
This hands-on class will help you start seeing your property differently.
Meet Your Teacher
BRAD JONES
Brad, one of the Co-Founders of The Kitchen House brings his years of experience in Gardening to Garden Mindset.
Through hands-on teaching and real-world experience, Brad will guide you through the four-part series—from understanding your property and soil to starting seeds and working with the seasons.
But this isn't about giving you a rigid set of instructions to follow.
It's about learning how to observe, ask questions, understand what's happening, and make decisions for your own garden.
You'll learn directly from your teacher while working with the land, soil, seeds, compost, and plants.
This isn't just a class you sit through. It's an experience you participate in.
What You'll Explore
Together, we'll look at:
-
Where is North? Where is South?
-
How does the sun move across your property?
-
Where are the sunny and shaded areas?
-
Where does water collect or drain?
-
Where might a garden make sense?
-
What areas could work for raised beds?
-
Where might a food forest fit?
-
What already exists that could work with your garden?
Hands-On Experience
You'll walk the property, observe the landscape, identify potential growing opportunities, and begin creating your own personal site map.
This isn't about creating a perfect garden plan.
It's about learning how to see your land before you start changing it.
What You'll Take Home
Your Personal Property Site Map
You'll leave with a map that identifies:
-
North/South orientation
-
Sun and shade
-
Existing features
-
Potential garden locations
-
Potential raised-bed areas
-
Potential food forest areas
-
Areas that may need more observation
The goal is not to leave with a finished garden.
The goal is to leave knowing where you could begin.
