Garden Mindset: Part 4 - Understand Your Soil

We're not teaching you how to garden our way. We're teaching you how to understand your garden.

A garden doesn't begin above the ground.

It begins underneath it.

Before you spend money on soil amendments, fertilizer, or compost, learn to understand what's happening in the soil beneath your plants.

This hands-on class introduces you to soil as a living system.

Meet Your Teacher

BRAD JONES

Brad, one of the Co-Founders of The Kitchen House brings his years of experience in Gardening to Garden Mindset.

Through hands-on teaching and real-world experience, Brad will guide you through the four-part series—from understanding your property and soil to starting seeds and working with the seasons.

But this isn't about giving you a rigid set of instructions to follow.

It's about learning how to observe, ask questions, understand what's happening, and make decisions for your own garden.

You'll learn directly from your teacher while working with the land, soil, seeds, compost, and plants.

This isn't just a class you sit through. It's an experience you participate in.

What You'll Explore

We'll explore:

• Soil vs. dirt

• What plants need from soil

• Organic matter

• Decomposition

• Compost

• Moisture

• Soil structure

• What healthy soil looks and feels like

• How to observe soil before trying to "fix" it

Hands-On Experience

You'll work directly with soil and compost.

You'll also learn how to measure and observe temperature and begin understanding what it can tell you about decomposition and growing conditions.

Instead of simply memorizing what temperature something should be, you'll learn to measure, observe, and ask why.

What You'll Take Home

You'll leave with:

• Compost you've participated in creating

• A better understanding of how healthy soil develops

• Resources for continuing at home

• A way to observe and measure your own growing environment

And perhaps the most important thing:

A new question to ask your garden:

"What is my soil telling me?"

Instead of:

"What does someone say I should put on it?"

$50 per person

After class, you're welcome to stay and enjoy the property.

Bring a lunch if you'd like to linger, sit under the trees, walk the property, or simply spend some time on the land.
